Experience life at a forest homestead, a “fäbod”, from the past with our guides Ylva and Malin!
The “fäbodar” were an important part of northern farming up until the 1940s. The “fäbod” Mobodarna
is set in the middle of rhe Ångermanland forest. That is where livestock grazed in summer so that hay on the fields surrounding the farms could be saved for the winter.
In the early summer the young maids on the farm moved with the cattle to the “fäbod” in the forest.
There they managed everything by themselves including taking care of the cows with everything
that meant, milking, making sour milk and fermented viscous milk, separate cream, churn butter, cook
soft whey cheese and make cheese. They also knitted a lot of what was needed in winter. At the
weekends young men from the villages came for a visit and there was a lot of dancing and singing.

Our guides Ylva and Malin will pick you up at the parking place at Oringsjö forest reservation. You will walk along the beautiful path to Mobodarna – a walk that takes approx. 15 minutes. During three hours you will have the opportunity to listen to tales from the history of Mobodarna and take part in cooking over an open fire. You will learn how to cook soft whey cheese and cook “glow bread” – a traditional bread baked in a frying pan. While enjoying the snack by the fire your guides will tell you tales about predators and mystic elemental beings. If you wish you can try wood carving or knitting.
